Who am I?
My name is Megan and I graduated as an Occupational Therapist from the University of the Free State (UFS) in 2017. I completed my community service year in Warmbaths Hospital and thereafter enjoyed simultaneously working at a special needs school and rehab center. My practice is currently based in Groblersdal. I love what I do and everyday is a new and exciting adventure!
My goal is to serve the community. Whether someone has a disability or impairment or needs an OT for another reason, there is always meaning and balance in every situation, and thereby by treating them as a whole, holistic being I aim to make a difference.
Training
Every year I complete numerous courses. Thus far I have done the Malamulele Onward course on Cerebral Palsy, DIR Floortime, courses on hand therapy and breastfeeding, courses on dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia and many more. A full list can be provided upon request.
Paediatric Intervention
If your child experiences challenges in the following areas, then referral to an Occupational Therapist may be a good idea:
• Learning difficulties
• Developmental delays
• Handwriting challenges
• Fine- or gross motor difficulties
• Visual perceptual difficulties
• ADHD / ADD
• Scholastic problems
• Cerebral palsy, down syndrome & many other diagnoses
A comprehensive assessment will first be done and a report with feedback provided so the best possible intervention plan can be structured based on your child's unique needs.
Mental Health
An Occupational Therapist can assist in the intervention of many psychiatric conditions e.g. Anxiety Disorders, OCD, Bipolar Mood Disorders and Depression.
Functional Capacity Evaluations
An in-depth interview, clinical assessment and standardised and non-standardised tests are used. The results of the tests, clinical reasoning and collateral information are used to determine whether an individual is fit for work at present or in the future with intervention.
If an individual shows work potential, the results from the FCE can assist with determining intervention required and developing a return to work plan. The return to work plan gives clear guidelines to the employer and the employee with regards to possible work modifications and accommodations.
