The Role of an Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner: More Than Just Hard Hats

When people think of health and safety, they often picture PPE, warning signs, or fire drills. But as an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Practitioner, my role goes far deeper.

I’m here to prevent injuries, illnesses, and fatalities in the workplace through proactive systems and education. This includes:

  • Conducting risk assessments and hazard identifications
  • Developing safety management plans
  • Training staff on safe work procedures
  • Investigating incidents and recommending corrective actions

OHS is about building a culture of safety—where employees feel protected, informed, and empowered to take care of themselves and their co-workers. It’s not just about compliance; it’s about creating a workplace where everyone goes home healthy.
